Easter eggs

Easter eggs are so fun! You can't really tell from the pictures (or maybe you can!) But I am horrible at dying the eggs. I always mix the tablets to make new colors and leave the eggs in for waaayy too long because I like the vibrant colors. Try twenty minutes too long! I ended up with some interesting colors this year.. when the dye goes on sale tomorrow I'll probably go buy more so I can keep playing with colors!

My cave

My room is slowly being redone. I'm excited to see how it looks finished!  It's a little more difficult to redo a room with all vintage because it takes a while to find furniture at a fair prices.
I have taken down some art my mom bought and put up some of my own, which makes me very happy.  I also took down all of the magazines on my closet doors. My room instantly looked five times less cluttered! Awesome.

Sew for victory: sneak peak

It's finished.  I am so relieved that my dress is ready for the sew for victory challenge! After a mini scare because I left my dress in my locker at school and it's spring break, I wasn't sure if I would be able to post in time.  But it is completed and here so check back Monday and see the finished product!

thrifty birthday finds!

Last Saturday was my birthday and I had so much fun!  Since I went shopping and bought so, so many incredible things (money goes a long way thrifting!) I decided to share with you the best of the best.

Okay, a 1940-50s uneven hemline skirt?? It's perfect.  Minus the fact that I have to put in a new zipper.

This dress is so amazing.  It's floor length and bright!  My mom thinks I should shorten it, but it is staying long!

I also got this vintage picnic basket, the teal crocheted pillows, and the vintage chair in the background!  It still needs to be washed, so I didn't put up a picture of its own despite my love for it.

17.

Oh my word, what a wonderful birthday! I went shopping with my mom, sister, grandma and best friend. First we went to an estate sale and savers. I also shopped at unhinged, which is my new favorite vibtage store and other random thrift shops I passed.

I want to thank my friends and family for wishing me a happy birthday and making it great!

Prepping for my birthday

Tomorrow is my birthday and I have some pretty great plans! Lots of estate sales, antique stores, and forever 21. Until then, I will be sitting under the dryer and cleaning my room. I'm enjoying my last day of being sixteen!

I sewed: plaid button up

I finished my shirt last week!  It was a very quick project that I loved making, so I'm sure you'll see this shirt in every color and pattern by the end of this summer.

You will have to forgive me for taking pictures with a mess of fabric on my bed.  Pattern pieces for the 1940s sewing project were being cut out moments before.

sewing smart in 1948

Do yourself a favor and watch this video.  I found it on Lucky Lucille's blog and couldn't resist sharing.  It really makes me appreciate my vintage dresses that were home made.  They went through a lot more than I do(Hand basting the entire dress first-crazy)!

Sew For Victory! A 1940s Themed Sewalong

I don't think I have been so lucky in my life.  If my new manager hadn't told me I needed to buy different pants for work that were nearly impossible to find, the gems I discovered in the pattern section at the D.I. would be someone else's treasures.  Did I mention I bought 20?? (In case you were wondering, I found pants too!)

The incredible luck plays in because I wanted to participate in the Sew For Victory sew-along,but didn't want to shell out big bucks for a 1940s pattern and fabric.  Not only do I now get to sew a dress from the correct era, I got to choose which one! Five(?) of the patterns I bought were from the1940s.

Here is the one I picked!  I think that I came across vintage fabric at a garage sale will make this even more authentic. The stripes will be the main part of view 1 with the floral print as the collar and pocket accents.

Here's the catch... Rochelle of Lucky Lucille is posting finished projects on March 31st.  I am being completely honest when I say I am not confident in my ability to finish by then.  Wish me luck(I'm going to need it)!

P.S.  I'm going to post a sewing video from the '40s later today, so come back!

Moving spring and summer in

Sunday was the big day. All of my winter clothes were swapped out to make room for spring and summer!  I have been itching to do this for weeks.  Believe me when I say I waited as long as I could.  It is so wonderful to look at all of my pretty clothes and think it is nearly time to soak up the sun while I wear them!

Vintage white flea market

I knew that today would be the perfect day to try out victory rolls for the first time.  A vintage flea market?  Yes please!

I have to admit that I spent more money  than I should have, but it was the excitement of the whole atmosphere!  It's something that puts me in a happy-spendy mood.  There were so many vintage booths with beautiful vintage clothes and furniture. I was surrounded by strangers who could appreciate my dress and hair.  These strangers were the really cool type that wore vintage themselves, sewed, and had vintage stores of their own.  I caught a nice lady taking a picture of me but I pretended like I didn't notice.  I found it to be a huge compliment!

what I wore: red hair

I can't believe I have forgotten to post these pictures of my red hair until now.  So, now that I have had red hair for almost a month, here is an outfit post!

I also have to gush about these pants.  You can't tell in the pictures, but they are velvet!  I loved wearing them- they just didn't fit right.  They were good for one day, but I'm afraid they will have to go into storage for my vintage shop.

my current sewing project

I am loving the button up shirt I'm sewing right now.  Pastel plaids are so pretty! This is my first shirt I've ever sewn, and I'm impressed with myself. The most difficult decision is whether I should make more of these shirts with my pink and mint plaid pastel fabrics or circle skirts.  Oh, the choices.
