My Pink Dream Dress (And Pattern)

Whenever I picture myself wearing dresses I've made, for some reason they are always pink, floral print, or covered in lace, bows or ribbon.  Rarely thus far has this dream been a reality.  I made this dress with the mind to put all the things I have dreamed of into it. I am in love with this dress, my friends.  It even matches my favorite pair of shoes.

My dream dress was made from a vintage Simplicity 7955 sewing pattern from the 1960s.  I used view 3, but decorated the final product quite a bit.  The dress was so simple to construct. No, really.  I made this and half of another dress (post coming soon) in one day!

I am in love with how basic this pattern is.  It makes a great fitting dress and leaves room to the imagination on how to dress it up be it with ribbon, lace, bows, fringe, fake flowers, rhinestones, or anything else you can think up!

Please forgive the creases, but I took these pictures after a day's wear.  Ignoring that it needs to be pressed, lets move our attention to the lace details!  They are, in my opinion, what really makes this dress so cute.  I weaved a peach colored ribbon in and out of the lace then sewed two stripes down the front.  But you probably didn't even notice the best part because I haven't shown a close up:

I added cute tiny bows at the top of both strips of lace!  When I look at clothes, I first notice the shape and color, but I fall in love with the details.  I wanted to put all of my favorite details (bows, lace, ribbon, floral, and pink) into one fantastic dress.  May I say mission accomplished?

Because I have worn this dress so many times, I am planning many variations but I keep going back to the idea of a white lace version with  a turquoise lining peeking through. Possibly a giant turquoise bow on the bust?  Thoughts?

What I Wore: Happy Orange and Homemade

This was my first time wearing a coat this season!  I love the bright orange and shape of this coat.  I got it at the tail end of last winter so it only got a few good outings before it had to wait for this year in a closet.

This was actually the second dress I made when I started learning how to sew last year. I wore it out only once, but I'm not sure why.  I think I get so sick of my projects by the time they are finished that I banish them into the depths of my closet.  I think it's a cute basic dress that should get a lot more use.  We will see if that happens!

what I wore: shorty

This dress turned out to not be a fabulously practical one for school.  It's a bit short for sitting and raising hands.  Whoops! But when have I been practical, really?  I also have to apologize for my less than good photos today, again, whoops.

what I wore: dreaming it is summer

I feel like school needs to end, so I can just sew, crochet, go to estate sales, and have picnics all day, every day.

Instead of me going to what would have been the best estate sale of my life, I had to send my mother to the best estate sale of her life with the promise of me paying her back for whatever she purchased for me.  She made me the proud owner of gorgeous vintage clothing and a massive magazine from the 1960s.  I just... wasn't there to buy them, which is half the thrill.

I'm just thinking of all the amazing sales I will go to when I'm no longer in school!  I feel better now.

what I wore: the eve of star events area competition

Yes, the time has come to stop the procrastination.  The time to make everything for star events has come and gone.  Why am I still not ready?

I never finished the poster I needed(yesterday's project), and on top of that I need to make a heart shaped hat and flash cards!

I sewed: a jumper!

I locked myself in my room for an entire day and dedicated it to using my new sewing machine!  Want to see what I made!?
I love it so much- the colors are one of my favorite combinations, the suspenders, and the ultra-high waist just make this perfect for me!

I followed the pattern until the last step looked like this:
finish bodice and skirt on left side.
No zipper?  No eye hooks? Do they really expect me to step in with my butt or put it over my shoulders?  Because that will not do.  Not even close.  So I improvised and added a zipper and eye hooks.  Not bad, eh?

What I Wore: Mink!

I am so happy it was finally cold enough for me to wear my vintage mink coat!  It is so nice and comfortable. I don't love the cold, but for December I want it to be super snowy and cold. Just one month for me to get my wear out of super warm clothes for the really cold days!
